ABSTRACT

Understanding who we are and how that influences what we do can be a powerful and empowering process. Like many, I never gave much thought to segregated schooling. I just accepted the bleak picture of the inadequate schooling of African Americans before the landmark decision of Brown v. the Board of Education (hitherto Brown) in 1954. I had accepted, uncritically of course, the picture that had been painted of segregated schooling as truth. This all changed in 2010.
