ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the empirical study of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) journalist, providing details about its method and its comparative approach in presenting findings. The expansion of the BRICS repertoire of initiatives starting with the economic and the political, moving through civil society, and now touching upon the media, are all attempts to add value to their grouping. This pathway and the immense transitions witnessed, initiated, and experienced along the way, as pertinent in terms of their timeline, were the springboard for the macro-level BRICS media systems project and the micro-level BRICS empirical journalist study. Apart from the above initiatives, the BRICS coalition has also acted on its desire to play a greater role in international communication; its various member countries held events to highlight issues. The chapter also presents an overview on the key concepts discussed in this book.
