ABSTRACT

In this chapter we digest the analysis presented in the volume and consider implications for policy, practice and research. We summarise the analysis around the subject of who volunteers and the associated issue of how diverse Special Constabularies are. We condense the arguments regarding how special constables are being deployed and what this means for the organisation and special constables themselves. We summarise the analysis related to the nature of the relationships between regular and special constables and how they work together and the beliefs and values that special constables might bring to the organisation. We digest issues to do with the retention of special constables. More broadly, we consider matters to do with a strategy for Special Constabularies at the national and local level.
