ABSTRACT

The Lord Stern Review suggested the way to make sustainability happen is via new technology, carbon pricing and energy efficiency. Information on technology can be found in news media, popular technology media, sector-specific professional media, and vendors/suppliers and also from professional bodies. For those of us who are not rocket scientists, developing new technologies may not be feasible, but we can benefit by deploying the new technologies developed by other people. Everyday Sustainability is something real for us to aim for and achieve readily, because it is made up of three simple elements: using Technologies and our Capabilities in deploying them; managing People and their Behaviour; and Managing the Processes we use daily. Processes and procedures that are not optimised waste resources, time and money, with people doing more and achieving less. Luckily, Everyday Sustainability is about achieving outcomes that benefit not just the investors and the employees, but also the broader stakeholder community too.
