ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the last two elements of Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control: Improve and Control. This is often the reason why a lot of change and innovation programmes fail: Real-world solutions need to take into account the local working environment and make adjustments accordingly. The chapter looks at how to integrate technology, behaviour and process management to carry out Everyday Sustainability and improve Energy Productivity through eliminating process problems and enhancing process efficiency. Successful gains in Overall Effectiveness and Energy Productivity need to be nurtured and maintained. One way to tackle the issues is to use the Play-Do-Check-Act continuous improvement cycle. This is a familiar tool for quality improvement, but we are using it for controlling the gains and therefore the focus is not just on improvements, but also on how we can maintain and grow the benefits from the improvement.
