ABSTRACT

The audit starts by identifying the available assets and how they use Operational and Systems Energy, respectively. This energy-use audit is not necessarily about process management, but instead about process issues relating directly to energy use. Luckily, it is not particularly hard to find out what energy is used by both large pieces of plant and overheads. Before carrying out an audit, it is prudent to define the process perimeter of the selected area of audit. Water is treated by many energy management professionals as an energy resource, and it can similarly be divided into Operational Water use and Systems Water use. The evolution of maintenance usually starts with catastrophic maintenance. With modern electronic sensors and computer storage capacity being more and more affordable, continuous condition monitoring allows a more flexible level of maintenance where potential problems are spotted and dealt with before they become catastrophes.
