ABSTRACT

The green state in the United States includes the various laws, regulations, and court decisions that have developed around environmental issues. This chapter discusses the various eras through which the green state developed, including the development era, the conservation era, the environmentalism era, the reform era, and the climate change era. The eras are defined by the regulatory regimes that are in place. The bulk of the green state was developed during the environmentalism era from 1962 to 1980. Next, Chapter 3 discusses the climate change era with an overview of the science associated with climate change, the international policy developments, and the politics of climate change in the United States.
