ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors discuss a wide variety of methods which will be essential tools as the designs become more complicated. All media designs will require some method of control. This control may require an operator or it may be completely automated. Switchers that offer the ability to change without noticeable error at the display require video processing. Rarely used in live performance, the passive switcher will be the least expensive option. Similar to passive adapters, there is no processing of the video signal in the devices. The glitch-free switcher will either display a period of video black or use a saved image to transition between signals in order to establish the start of the video signal before presentation of the new image. While the glitch-free processing can allow for cross fades through black or a saved still image, the seamless switcher can allow for cross fades between images to some degree.
