ABSTRACT

Inclines have been historically more complicated than forms parallel to the ground plane. In the early development of perspective drawing, an incline was a particularly difficult problem for artists. Understanding the geometry of inclines takes the mystery out of the process. Geometry is what enables the artist to create an accurately drawn image. This chapter explains how measuring points are used to determine the length of an incline. The importance of geometry and its role in creating an inclined isosceles triangle is discussed, as well as how the inclined isosceles triangle affects the measuring method.
