ABSTRACT

Depending on the angle of the object being drawn, vanishing points may sometimes be located off the paper’s edge—frequently, very far off the paper’s edge. If the vanishing point is beyond the reach of a ruler, an alternative method must be used to determine the angle of foreshortened lines. This chapter gives step-by-step instructions on how to create and use a partial grid to locate these distant vanishing points. The grid creates a guide for the lines being drawn. When the vanishing point’s position is out of reach, another problem is created. The vanishing point’s location is a necessary ingredient to accurately measure objects, as it is required to locate a measuring point. This chapter explores alternative solutions to plot the position of a measuring point.
