ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates how to draw objects in one-point perspective. One-point perspective, being the simplest, is the logical place to begin learning perspective techniques. Drawing a one-point perspective diagram is outlined, including instructions on establishing scale, positioning the viewer in relation to the picture plane, locating the vanishing point and measuring points, how to draw and measure objects, as well as placing objects in specific locations are illustrated. Being able to measure dimensions is a principal tenet of perspective. Measuring dimensions parallel to the picture plane (non-foreshortened lines), as well as measuring dimensions that connect to vanishing points (foreshortened lines) are also diagramed. Step-by-step instructions guide the reader through the process of using the information above to create a one-point perspective grid and demonstrate its use.
