ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the changes in the roles of senior leaders during what proved to be a year of remarkable turbulence at Parkside Academy. These change processes regarding the formal leadership structures were described here in some detail in order to cast light, first, on the ways in which the succession process was handled, and, second, where the decision making for the process was located. The chapter illustrates that the significant staffing decisions impacted on the whole school community. It explains the ideas of various proponents of the independent state school model, particularly their thoughts about management and leadership. The chapter focuses on the senior leadership team; more attention is paid to the top end of the management structure. It also describes some of the implications her extended absences had for staff and students of Parkside Academy.
