ABSTRACT

The more I thought about this, the more sure I became that the cherished article of faith must be that man is a creature capable of reflective thought, free to make conscious choices. From this flows the feeling which we all share, even those who suffer most from a sense of their own inferiority, that in the final analysis each of us is unique as a person. Since this is a faith which men in our society live by even, I suspect, those who claim to be detenninist, it is inevitably defended tenaciously.
