ABSTRACT
Manchester College, or the Manchester Academy, as it was first called, was indeed a new foundation, but it stands in the Une of a brave succession. Rightly to appreciate its history, and the part it has played in the life of the nation, we must remember also the fore-runners, who first kindled and handed on the torch of religious freedom and loyalty to truth, in face of the persecuting Acts of the Restoration period.
