ABSTRACT

THE story of the Warrington Academy falls naturally into three parts : first the preparation and foundation, on more public, broader lines · than the Academies which preceded it, with the first years, 1757-61, under Dr. John Taylor as Divinity tutor; then the prosperous years, under Dr. Aikin, 1761-80, and lastly three years of increasing difficulties, ending with suspension of the work in 178 3 and the final dissolution of the society in 1786.
