ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the role and potential of community forestry and Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs) to equip the poor and the most vulnerable communities for climate change adaptation in Nepal. By exploring CFUG mandates, roles, functions and capacities, we investigate how CFUGs facilitate climate change adaptation to assist vulnerable communities. The research identifies key factors to optimize the role of CFUGs in climate change adaptation as improved governance and enhanced capacity, knowledge and skills, as well as suggests that institutional ability to transform organizational policies, structure and practices is critical to the success of CFUGs to assist the most vulnerable communities.
