ABSTRACT
The acceptance of Allan Schore’s Affect Regulation Theory and its dissemination via writings and lectures gave rise to opportunities for interviewers to approach him in conversation. The question-answer formats cover a wide variety of themes, and also give a more personal glimpse into Schore’s mind and personality. One of the main topics in the interview between Schore and Carroll was the recognition of John Bowlby’s elevated position in both the developmental and psychiatric sciences. In the latter part of the interview, Carroll posed the question of whether these new findings may have relevance to psychotherapy. In the final phase of the interview George Halasz asked a set of questions centered on the implications of the paradigm shift for the mental health professions in the broadest terms – health, education, curricula, the legal world, and wider culture. The interview moved along to the topic of how we can possibly master these adverse and potentially damaging relational experiences.
