ABSTRACT
Georg Kerschensteiner was born in 1854 in Munich during a cholera epidemic. His family was poor and humble, for his father, originally of wealthy country stock, had lost almost all his means in various financial undertakings. Anton, his father, was fifty-one when he took as his second wife young Katherina, then a mere girl of nineteen, who showed him an almost filial love and devotion.
