ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces some case studies of pupils with examples of projects that can support the teaching of art and design. Classroom displays should be changed to illustrate the new topic, and the teacher should find relevant examples of past pupils' work for exemplification of expected outcomes. A good teaching assistant will find ways of displaying information visually using other pieces of artwork, images, signs, symbols, sign language, mime, animations on a computer, etc. Joseph Cornell was an American artist. Working as a textile designer, he collected old films and photographs and also bought objects, papers and early images, which he used in his 'boxes' and collages. Sketchbook experiments relating to the colour green in a variety of materials, paint, pastel, crayon, tissue paper, etc. The mask can be painted/varnished and/or covered in tissue paper, home-made paper, twigs, etc. Mask research based on the premise that masks have a paradoxical use – they both conceal and transform.
