ABSTRACT

The work the Igazgyongy Foundation is broad in its scope and in understanding how children can best be engaged in art activities that support and foster the development of their intellectual, emotional and social skills. The Foundation focuses on supporting integration and enhancing the future prospects of children, mostly 'Roma', from families who have lived for generations in these conditions of extreme poverty. It is based on three main elements: education, family care, and development of the community. These encompass crisis management, developing self-preservation skills, job creation and the creation of cooperation between the statutory services, especially, but not restricted to, social work, education and health. The basis and starting point is visual education. Analysing carefully each child's profile of abilities and using themes that start from their specific interests, motivation and learning are maximised, helping them to develop better their capacity to maintain attention and effort.
