ABSTRACT

In order to understand how and why elections are drawing migrants back to their homelands to cast votes and how the phenomenon of migration impacts these places, the chapter explains two villages such as: Hasrauli village and Baderi village in Jaunpur district, which lies in the Poorvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh. Jaunpur is the gateway to the Bhojpuri region as it lies on the borders of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Hasrauli village is mainly dominated by people belonging to the Yadav community who number 3,000 in total. Migration is an important issue among the contestants who fight the elections from different political parties. In order to study how migration from the Bhojpuri region is impacting politics at the destination points, the chapter considers Mumbai recently to observe the scenario in localities dominated by Bhojpuri migrants like Nala Sopara, Basai, Virar, Kandivali, Borivali, Andheri and Dadar.
