ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the fascinating diversity of women's sexuality throughout the life span, including sexual attitudes, behaviors, problems, and orientations. It discusses women's sexual anatomy and sexual response. The social construction of norms about female and male sexuality is nowhere seen more clearly than in this sexual double standard, which allowed and even encouraged premarital sex for men, but not for women. Cyber spaces such as the Asexual Visibility and Education Network (AVEN) provide a forum for discussing asexuality and a place for asexual individuals to develop a community. Transgender people have a gender identity that does not match their sex assigned at birth, which is generally based on genital appearance. Heterosexism is the view that heterosexuality is the norm and that homosexuality is abnormal. Discrimination against sexual minorities is substantial and can take many form.
