ABSTRACT
Professionalization is one of the distinctive features of modern societies. More and more occupational groups with some of the characteristics of the classical professions (medicine and law) have arisen, and the number of professionals has grown dramatically. An important part of this growth has occurred within the domains of the welfare state and resulted in a diverse group of so-called welfare state professions.1
