ABSTRACT
Britain does not have frontier towns, but it does have the Channel ports. Dover and Folkestone in particular are both the most cosmo politan and the most English o f towns; always full o f people on the move, and with a native population whose work consists often of face-to-face services to outsiders. And the outsiders - so essential to the livelihood o f practically every inhabitant - are deeply and utterly resented.
