ABSTRACT

The next level of predominantly trauma-focused therapies encompasses an increasing range of available interventions such as narrative therapy, eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), creative therapies, trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic psychotherapy. The theoretical underpinning, goals and challenges of interventions are considered for different vulnerable groups. Indication and misperceptions about the potential role of medication are also discussed. The chapter concludes with examples and applications of multi-modal programmes for vulnerable children and youth.
