ABSTRACT
Why This Works-Insulation (extruded polystyrene) foam is quite easy to form and cut. It comes in a variety of thicknesses. It does come in contractor packs of ½” thick foam, but for this project getting the 1” foam will produce a better result. It typically comes in two colors, pink and blue. The pink extruded polystyrene (XPS) is produced by Owens Corning® Foamular® and the blue XPS is produced by Dow™ Styrofoam™. If the foam is going to be handled a lot, you may want to make sure the paint adheres well to the foam by coating the foam first with either Rosco® FoamCoat, CrystalGel, or 3M™ Fastbond™ Contact Adhesive 30NF before painting. Each of those products bonds better with the foam and helps the paint not flake off.
