ABSTRACT

The few available studies of urban labour markets in the Sudan focus almost exclusively on Greater Khartoum. With the exception of a few studies (Sa’ad El-Din El Fawzi 1954; 1957; McLoughlin 1965; Ali Ahmed Suleiman 1974), most of the literature has appeared since 1976, after the arrival of the ILO/UNDP Employment Mission which sought to formulate a comprehensive development strategy for the country.
