ABSTRACT
The modern economic history of the Sudan began in 1898 with the establishment of Anglo-Egyptian control. Beginning with a virtual economic tabula rasa, the British formulated policies and evolved patterns of development that have persisted to the present day. These patterns have determined both the sectors of the economy and the regions of the country that have been developed.
