ABSTRACT
The sciences o f geology and meteorology are yet young, but they have made remarkable strides forward in the last few years. They may even now, therefore, be able to help us in answering these practical questions. The time may come in the not distant future when a warning may be given us that a severe earthquake is likely to happen, just as predictions are made with some exactness concerning cyclonic disturbances to-day.
