ABSTRACT

In some ways, talking about forgiveness seems to be exactly opposite of talking about just relationships . In fact, the preceding nonforgiveness statements all represent a desire for justice. They recognize the inherent problems in “letting someone off the hook” or excusing hurtful behavior. Justice, when discussing relationship hurt and transgression, is often associated with balancing (equity) the pain experienced in a hurtful situation, and victims and offenders both “getting what they deserve” (see Chapter Two : “Just Relationships”).
