ABSTRACT

Aerial is such an intense form that even students who have no anxiety and are completely physically fit are challenged. The technique is demanding in itself so adding any burden beyond the technique makes it almost impossible. Further, there really isn't an option to frequently sit out of class. If a student stops attending classes for weeks at a time because they are scared or feel ill, they miss too much material and experiential learning and fall behind. In addition to aiding in mapping the growth of each student, learning about their lives can help frame class descriptions or explanations in ways that make sense to them and help them to translate their body knowledge into aerial movement. Finally, and maybe most importantly, it is vital that, if there is any question about the health of a student, they are sent to a doctor or physical therapist.
