ABSTRACT

Appropriate clothing is very important in aerial class. Students who've never taken aerial before tend to either dress like they are taking a ballet class in leotard and tights or dress like they are going for a run in shorts and t-shirts. The best top for a student aerialist is one that has long sleeves and is long waisted but is tight to the body. This is mainly for protection from the harness, the wall and the rope. If a shirt is worn that doesn't come below the belly button or to the hips, it will gradually ride up above the harness. A harness on bare skin is quite painful. Long sleeves protect the arms of the dancer from the wall and the harshness of the rope. Wool socks or some sort of wicking socks that breathe and appropriate shoes are essential.
