ABSTRACT

Editing is a multi-layered activity that involves working with both pictures and sound through various stages. In the offline edit, artist will be working with the material that they have selected during the viewing and logging process. The offline process is usually a longer one than the online, as time is allowed for lots of different options to be tried out before a final structure is found and committed to. In editing, it is primarily the transition between different clips that creates energy and dynamism. Even in the case of the continuous shot, artist may find that they end up breaking it up by inserting other clips to alter the pace of the edit. Many artists are making video dance work have editing software on their personal computers and these offers an independence that was much harder to achieve when edit systems were collections of expensive equipment which required specialist training to operate.
