ABSTRACT

Evolving an approach to pre-production that meets the needs of particular project, interests and practice is essential and can also be great fun, as this is when people begin to make the creative decisions that will affect the outcome of their work. The way people chose to work may also vary depending on whether they are both choreographing and directing, if they are working as a choreographer/director team, or if they are collaborating with other artists to develop the work. There are many benefits to working with improvisation as part of the video dance-making process. Generate new ideas, as the starting point, for a new video dance work might be inspired by images that are created through improvisation. Encourage collaboration and communication between the creative team, i.e. dancers, choreographer, cameraperson, director, as they work together to create, look at, analyse and consider exploring ways of developing the improvised material.
