ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how many design elements including location, props, costume, hairstyles and make-up contribute to the creation of an 'on-screen world' and the effective communication of peoples work's intention. With the relationship between dancer and camera at its heart, video dance brings together performance and the many other creative elements of the moving image medium to create an illusionary on-screen world. A camera lens usually has a narrower field of vision. There are three basic types of lens, each of which has a different quality. They are: standard lens; wide-angle lens; telephoto Lens. Video cameras have traditionally had an attached lens that can 'zoom' between a fairly wide to a fairly tight focal length. The benefit of using a prime lens is that they tend to be of a higher quality than the zoom lens, resulting in a clearer, crisper image.
