ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 extracts the knowledge about public involvement in RWM developed by the Euratom research programmes over the last twenty years and synthesises the major lessons learnt. Several research projects have investigated the social dimension of RWM and produced useful insights on matters of participation. The findings of these projects are analysed and systematised in the chapter and used to define a list of general principles for public involvement. Such principles are meant to work as indications for promoting and enhancing public involvement in the formulation, design and implementation of RWM policies.
