ABSTRACT
Chapter 7 clarifies the link between public involvement and trust. After defining trust in general, the chapter takes a closer look at trust in the domain of RWM and reviews the major works issued by the OECD’s Nuclear Energy Agency on the topic. It explains which factors influence citizens’ trust in the process of decision-making, the structure of roles and responsibilities, the actors and key organisations, and the facilities that all together constitute a national RWM system. Finally, the chapter touches upon the relationship between public involvement, trust and social acceptance, and its relevance for the nuclear energy field.
