ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores the paradigm in which the States have operated in the establishment of their legislative regimes for intellectual property protection. It examines the regional and domestic moral fabric for intellectual property protection in the States under scrutiny. The book examines the recent history of intellectual property rights protection within the Arabian Peninsula and in each State. It also examines some of the foreign influences that have been brought to bear, directly and indirectly, on the development of the region’s intellectual property laws. The book addresses the status of the States’ regimes for copyright and neighbouring rights protection. It explores the shift in the international intellectual property protection environment away from the multilateral context and towards the bilateral context.
