chapter  8
TRIPS-plus and ‘raising the bar’
WithDavid Price, Alhanoof AlDebasi
Pages 45

Previous chapters have charted the progression of the Arabian Peninsula States’ intellectual property protection regimes through the era prior to the establishment of the WTO and appearance of TRIPS (pre-TRIPS), the era of achieving membership of the WTO and compliant intellectual property regimes (TRIPS), and the era of challenges of TRIPS implementation and enforcement (post-TRIPS). This chapter considers some external influences that have had an impact upon the respective States’ intellectual property protection environments during the post-TRIPS era, and the extent to which those influences may have contributed to enhanced or upgraded protection standards – in other words, the TRIPS-plus environments.
