ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on our development as a professional by providing us with background insights into a range of issues that affect the decisions we make in the classroom, and illustrating how such insights affect our classroom practice. It describes the work alongside the other experiences on our journey, providing a practical introduction to the complex knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes that teachers need to acquire, and to the theories underpinning them. The book explores and explains critical issues, such as teaching and learning, curriculum and assessment, diversity and inclusion, and it also attends to significant developments and partnerships in practice. It contains an introduction to the key concepts and learning activities for student teachers, presented in the form of tasks. The book closes by looking forwards to our professional development.
