ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the skills and knowledge required for us to be able to create and supports successful learning experiences that, ultimately, could transform lives. It considers when we plan for the children’s learning, to help us move faster on our journey from novice towards becoming an expert teacher. The chapter focuses on some of the more important components of teaching skills and to explore the implications of these for our teaching. The most outstanding quality that separated the concept/skill builders from the other two categories was their ability to see the ‘bigger picture’ and give a rationale for what they were attempting to do in terms of key principles and concepts. Of the three types, the concept/skill builders were much more likely to be able to support learning at every stage of the learning experience, effectively, consistently and responsively. Thus, task managers merely knowledge–a blueprint–that the children learn, and the children have no interaction with that knowledge.
