ABSTRACT
In Chapter 4, language development, is explored in greater depth. As with PSED and physical development, language and communication is a complex, multifaceted and substantial area of development. The communication of newborn babies who are pre-verbal is explored, along with language and vocabulary development. The critical effect of language skills, social skills, problem solving and self-expression is discussed. The role language and communication plays in cultural identity is also considered in this chapter.
