ABSTRACT

Holistic growth, learning and development are contextualised, so the importance of the physical environment is discussed in Chapter 9, in particular the suitable physical environments for the birth to three age range. The way that the environment needs to adapt to children’s needs, from newborn to three years old, is discussed. Environments are also considered via the practitioner’s effective use of the environment to support independence, talking and listening, cognition, playing outdoors and partnerships.
