ABSTRACT

Diagnosing alcoholism may be difficult, but diagnosing different organic neurological syndromes complicating alcoholism is much easier - only first one must define them. For many years we have tried to measure objectively, describe and diagnose clinically certain neurological impairments in alcoholics, particularly brain damage. In this chapter some of our investigations will be reported. The following investigations will be described:

(1 ) As far back as 1962 we published the results of a study of 161 alcoholics using pneumoencephalography (Hudolin, Vi., 1962). Since that time we have continued our studies, using pneumoencephalography, electroencephalography, gammaencephalography, echoencephalography and computerised axial tomography (Hudolin, Vi., 1967; Hudolin Vi., and Kryzanovski, 1977).
