ABSTRACT
The causes of drug addiction are not yet clear. While some regard it as a personality disorder resulting from social stresses, others attach greater importance to biological factors affecting the basic biochemical and neurophysiological mechanisms of the brain. Current disagreements over the nature and causes of drug addiction extend to the practi'cal problem of the treatment and handling of the large numbers in every country who are chronically disabled by drug abuse.
