ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with a photo-therapeutic model that was developed and evaluated through a randomised controlled trial within a multimodal clinical treatment setting. In this study, depression as a disorder is seen as the result of the interaction between genes with the environment. The therapeutic factors used were based on Schurian’s approach that argues that perception changes in connection with cognition, emotion, motivation, self-reflection and memory. The research design used social research methods: qualitative process observation, quantitative data analysis and methodological triangulation. Results suggested that symptoms of depression in particular decreased, while cognition and positive expectations increased following phototherapy sessions.
