ABSTRACT

This chapter provides information related to the tasks of a lighting designer and lighting crews as they move a production into the facility in which a show mounted. It discusses a load-in that is refered to the time period in which all the scenery, costumes, and lighting equipment arrive and are installed or setup at the venue. One of the most important elements regarding final preparations for a load-in is in making as many decisions outside of the theatre as possible. Level-setting relates to the times in which the actual cues are programmed into the lighting console or developed in a manual lighting system. A lighting designer should always strive to have the most amount of time possible for sitting at the design desk actually creating the cues. Opening nights are a magical moment in a production's history. Once a production has officially opened and gone into its performance run, the lighting designer's role is over.
