ABSTRACT

The light plot or lighting layout is a scaled drafting of a stage/auditorium or environment that illustrates critical information related to a lighting design. Light plots are used in entertainment lighting, while lighting layouts are used in permanent installations like themed and exhibit designs as well as architectural projects. One of the most important functions of a light plot is to aid a designer in turning their images into actual choices that control the properties of light. The light plot and section serve important roles in communicating the intentions of a lighting designer to the electricians. The light plot and lighting layout can be compared to a road map where every luminaire is placed in a location directly related to where it will be hung in the installation. In lighting design, the floorplan is frequently used as a template for the light plot, which represents the single most important design document that a lighting designer produces.
