ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces a number of entertainment lighting specialties that employ lighting professionals and designers outside of the more traditional areas of theatrical lighting. It also introduces several essential elements related to each of these specialty areas of lighting. Concert lighting is one of the most expressive areas in which a lighting designer can work. On the other hand, it comes with a number of demands that make it a particularly stressful area to work within. The lighting of these events follows design practices that are similar to those used in many other lighting applications. Though the basic principles of lighting remain the same, film and video lighting can vary significantly from that of live theatrical production. The chapter discusses key video/film concepts and provides a brief overview of how these are important to media production as well as how these areas of lighting differ from other areas of lighting design.
