ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with the process of lighting design and focuses on the task of establishing a vision or lighting scheme/lighting concept for a project. Lighting analysis for most entertainment events involves a combination of several different processes. Design meetings and production meetings present some of the most important opportunities for a lighting designer to gather information that will shape the design of a project. Rehearsals provide another important opportunity for a lighting designer to gain a more in-depth understanding of a play. A lighting scheme or lighting concept is nothing more than a specific approach to a lighting project or problem. Lighting schemes tend to be associated with architectural projects, while lighting concepts tend to be connected to performance or entertainment-related events. One of the first concrete decisions that a lighting designer often makes in regard to a lighting design usually involves creating some form of lighting key.
